Looking to get away to Europe this summer?
Well, it’s May, so you’re a little late to start planning, but I found 5 cheap non-stop flights from Boston to Europe for under $500 round-trip.
The last time I posted something like this I found 5 flights for under $300, but there are a few less discount long-haul airlines in business today. Plus summer is prime time for travel, and time is running out, so snag these cheap flights soon before the prices double!
Note that prices can change at any time, and sometimes go up and down several times in the course of one week, so you may not find these EXACT prices on the flights I’ve highlighted, but I’ve explained at the end of this post how to use Google Flights to find the best deals.
Boston to London – $335 Round Trip
First on the list is a ridiculously cheap flight from Boston to London (LHR – Heathrow) non-stop for $335 on Virgin Atlantic. Personal item and carry-on bag is included and a checked bag would be $60 each way.
You could spend the week in London or book another connecting flight from London to anywhere in Europe on one of Europe’s discount fare airlines.
Other options:
- High speed train from London to Paris in just over 2 hours
- High speed train from London to Amsterdam in about 4 hours
- Overnight ferry from London to Amsterdam
Boston to Rome – $445 Round Trip
Who doesn’t want to see famous sights like the Colosseum in Rome? You could fly non-stop from Boston to Rome (FCO – Leonardo da Vinci) in August for $483 on Norweigan Airlines.
A personal item and carry-on bag is included. If you want to check a bag, you’ll want to get LowFare+ which includes meals, a seat reservation and a checked bag for an extra $90 each way.
I have flown on Norweigan Airlines and had a perfectly good flight … Just pack light and travel with a carry-on only so that you don’t have to pay that GOTCHA checked bag fee!
PS – You can score a flight for as cheap as $380 round-trip from Boston to Rome in September. In addition to saving money, you would probably have a better experience because it won’t be as busy as it would be in August, which is the busiest month for vacationers in Europe.
In fact, when I get around to visiting the popular destinations in Europe like Paris or Rome, I’ll probably go in the winter when its the least busy and least expensive.
Boston to Iceland – $452 Round Trip
Of course Iceland is on this list! WOW Airlines used to be the go-to for cheap flights from Boston to Iceland but they went out of business earlier this year. However, Icelandair continues to offer cheap non-stop flights from Boston to Reykjavic. Fly non-stop in July for only $452 round-trip. Personal item and carry-on included, checked bag for an additional $69 each way.
Lounge in the blue lagoon with all of the other Americans or better yet, check out the filming locations of Game of Thrones in the Icelandic Highlands (before they ruined the show in the last season!)
Iceland has become REALLY popular in recent years, so before you book a flight, make sure that you can book a hotel room and rental car at a reasonable price.
Boston to Madrid – $280 Round Trip
Wait, what?! Boston to Madrid non-stop for $280 round-trip on Norweigan Airlines! OK, this flight is in September, but the weather is just as nice and there will be less crowds. If you have to go during summer break, the same flight is $493 Thu 8/15 to Thu 8/22/19. I don’t know anything about visiting Madrid or Spain for that matter but I’m sure it’s bueno!
Providence to Dublin – $344 Round Trip
Last on the list, another Norweigan Airlines flight, from Boston to Dublin non-stop for $344 in the end of August.
If you’ve never been to Europe and you feel a little intimidated, Ireland is a great first country to visit in Europe. The language is English, the people are friendly, the scenery is beautiful … Oh, but be warned, they do drive on the left side of the road on ridiculously narrow roads!
My wife and I took advantage of one of these cheap Norweigian Airlines flights a couple of years ago when we flew from Boston to Cork, Ireland. It’s a fantastic country to see and experience. If you go to Ireland, I highly recommend exploring the Dingle Peninsula in south-west Ireland!
How To Find Cheap Flights
Select your departure airport, then in destinations, you list multiple airports or even enter something as broad as “Europe”.
You’ll need to enter travel dates at first, but after you get the results, click on the date and change the toggle from “Specific Dates” to “Flexible Dates”. You’ll then select your desired month and trip duration, and destinations with R/T prices will appear on the map. Click on any of the destinations to see the flights.
Long live the cheap long-haul flights from USA to Europe!
When booking overseas flights, it’s generally the earlier the better, and at the absolute latest I recommend booking 6 weeks in advance so if you’re interested in any of these flights, don’t delay!
We booked our summer trip to Germany a few months ago, and actually paid for the flight with points on American Airlines that I accumulated from work travel, converting Marriott points to AA, and the AA credit card’s bonus offer. Maybe that will be my next blog post!
